Nespresso’s Coffee-boutique rewarded at Prix Intérieurs Ferdie

Montreal, January 18th, 2010 – The Prix Intérieurs Ferdie just honored Nespresso’s Coffee-Boutique shop for its outstanding interior design, giving it the first prize in the Commercial-Café category. This prize crowns the joined efforts of Thibodeau Architecture+Design (TAD) and of the project designers, the Swiss firm Concept Consult Design (CCD). Located on Crescent Street in Montreal, and opened to the public since February 2009, the very first Nespresso Coffee-Boutique in Canada also houses the Company’s Canadian headquarters.

”We’re very happy with this prize. Canadians are increasingly adopting high quality portioned coffee and our coffee-boutique responds well to this tendency”, proudly declares Jacques Demont, Nestlé Nespresso Canada national director. Let us underline as well that Nespresso will participate, along with TAD, to the Design Montreal Open House, in May 2010.

An Elegant Space

Well-known for its coffees of carefully designed flavours, it was an obvious necessity for its planning to be as elegant as its notoriety. This is how Concept Consult Design (CCD) and Thibodeau Architecture + Design (TAD) came to unite their strengths. The result was to create a flowing and refined space in which subtle accents add life and dynamism. The visual homogeneity between the tasting area and the sale area helps erasing the visual barriers that could have easily been produced by the two-floors distribution. The curved lines and the transparency of the handrails reinforce this flowing sensation, attenuating the physical limits.

Building such a tailored endeavour, for which every detail is required to be attentively designed, creates its lot of challenges. It is however thanks to a close collaboration between TAD and its sister company
Pan American Constructions Inc., as a “Design-Build” project, that it was possible to face the numerous difficulties while respecting a stringent time-schedule and the established budget. Indeed, the renovation of this heritage building brought its share of surprises with the structure, without nonetheless destabilizing the valiant multidisciplinary team's efforts to deliver a successful project.
